Up to 15 volunteers will be sorting through donated treasures at the Hillcrest Lenexa Thrift Store! Registration is on a first-come basis and volunteers ages 10 to 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
Please note that lunch is not provided. Volunteers are encouraged to eat before volunteering.
These thrift stores help Hillcrest Transitional Housing to (1) provide funding for its program (2) provide items needed for the organizations 84 apartments in the Metro and (3) provide essentials and furnishings for graduates of the Hillcrest Transitional Housing program when the graduates move into new homes.
Hillcrest has been solving homelessness for more than 40 years. Hillcrest serves youth, individuals, and families throughout the greater Kansas City region through its five residential sites in Johnson and Wyandotte Counties in Kansas and Jackson County in Missouri. Unlike many organizations whose focus is one-time or emergency care, Hillcrest's primary objective is to move clients from homelessness to self-sufficiency by addressing the total life situation of the homeless families they serve.
The transitional housing program focuses on moving clients to the
self-sufficiency within a 90-day time frame; households with more barriers to permanent housing may receive longer term transitional housing assistance. Hillcrest also provides a transitional housing program for homeless teens and young adults, ages 18 to 24, who have an education goal.
